Samuel Eto'o drawing interest from Sounders, but likely heading to Serie A

Cameroon's star forward reportedly blocked by DP rule.

Witters Sport-USA TODAY Sports

Currently out of favor, former Chelsea, Anzi, Inter and Barcelona star Samuel Eto'o is about to leave Everton. According to ESPNSeattle Sounders FC made a play for Cameroon's stud No. 9. Still only 33, the blockade was apparently not that Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins are already on the roster, but that currently Seattle is not willing to move one of their three DPs.

The Seattle Sounders expressed interest in Eto'o, but were unable to accommodate him because they are at the limit of three designated players. Other MLS teams rejected Eto'o because of salary considerations and other factors.

You can take a moment.

At one point Eto'o was highest paid soccer player in the world. He was once traded for Zlatan. He's played for huge clubs. He's scored 245 competitive goals for his clubs.

He was nearly Seattle's third forward.

Instead he's heading to Sampdoria. His time has faded away. But again, he's just 33 and only a year removed from a 12-goal season with Chelsea. There's time left for him to contribute at the club level.

As we learned too well in August of 2013, Joe Roth dreams big - so can you.
