Just when it seemed like it might be time to give up on hope on the Seattle Sounders trying to sign Nicolas Lodeiro it appears the tides may be changing.
Although there’s no indication Lodeiro has changed his mind about remaining with Boca Juniors through their Copa Libertadoes run, it does look like negotiations are ongoing and that he’s still open to making a move.
Angelici: "There is a new offer for Lodeiro. It is closer to what we are looking for." [@ClossAM590]

That’s a translated quote from Boca Juniors President Daniel Angelici, who was talking to an Argentinian radio station. The rumored offer appears to be in the $5-$6 million range. Although the Sounders aren’t the team specifically mentioned, they seem to be the team expressing the most interest.
Lodeiro also spoke to the same radio station after Boca’s preseason game against Olimpia de Paraguay, saying "What I want is to win the Copa with Boca. Then we’ll see what happens with my future."
None of this means Lodeiro is definitely coming to the Sounders, but it definitely suggests that at least remains a possibility. Whether or not the Sounders are willing to wait until the end of Copa — which could be as late as July 27 — is obviously a question that remains unanswered. The MLS transfer window opens on July 4 and stays open until Aug. 3.
