Boca Juniors vs Independiente del Valle Copa Libertadores 2016 Gamethread: Time, TV schedule and how to watch online

For one night only, Sounders fans everywhere should be setting aside their rave green in favor of neon pink as Ecuadoran visitors Independiente del Valle take on Boca Juniors in game 2 of tonight’s Copa Libertadores semifinal match. The outcome may have real ramifications on Seattle’s season.

While this match is sure to be an entertaining, high octane battle between two South American soccer giants, for Sounders fans, it means much more.

Why you should watch

For weeks, transfer rumors have been swirling around twitter suggesting Boca Juniors' playmaker Nicolas Lodeiro could be headed to MLS upon the completion of Boca Juniors' participation in Copa Libertadores. Some rumors have suggested a move to Montreal, while others mention Vancouver, but Seattle's name has been shouted the loudest and with most frequency. Tonight’s match should be seen as a preview of what kind of player the Sounders may receive this summer. If Lodeiro does make his way to Seattle this summer, his move-in date may be determined by the results of tonight’s match. If the Ecuadoran side can hold on to their narrow 2-1 lead for 90 more minutes, Lodeiro Watch at Sea-Tac may be just around the corner...

What if Independiente del Valle wins?

If Independiente del Valle advance, Boca Juniors would then be free to begin making their offseason roster modifications, which would hopefully include the long-anticipated sale of Nicolas Lodeiro to the Seattle Sounders. Commence #LodeiroWatch

What if Boca Juniors win?

If this happens, a potential transfer for Nicolas Lodeiro would not take place until after the final round of Copa Libertadores, on July 27.

Fortunately, the MLS transfer window does not close until August 3, leaving Seattle enough time to close a deal.

Unfortunately, the playoff race for the Sounders has become quite urgent in recent weeks as the Rave green currently find themselves several points out of playoff contention. If (knock on wood) the Sounders revert to their losing ways in coming weeks, that additional waiting period could potentially be the difference between the Sounders making the playoffs or watching them from home.
Moral of the story: Vamos Independiente!!!
