No Sounders FC, No problem - Watch The Academy

Yes, the First Team is off this weekend but there is still plenty of non-MLS action that Seattle Sounders should watch.

When Major League Soccer gave Seattle Sounders FC the weekend off to prepare for their CONCACAF Champions League semifinal it left a hole in an already empty April. But not to worry, besides the various MLS games this weekend there is other soccer Sounders fans need to watch.

Friday - Sounders pre-Academy
Out on field 11 at Starfire the distant future will play a match at 5PM. Next year the pre-Academy will compete in the USSDA U14s, but for now they are a way to get playing time for the youngest of Sounders. They face the Boise Nationals.

Saturday - Sounders U18s, U16s and Santos Laguna
The two Sounders Academy games are back to back at Starfire Stadium. The U18s kickoff at Noon with the U16s scheduled for 2:30 PM. San Juan Soccer Club is the opponent, but your eyes will focus on Jordan Morris at forward as well as Jalen Markey, Ike Crook, Duncan McCormick and the rest proudly wearing Rave Green. Seattle's 18s are 11-4-5 in 2nd facing a 3-10-5 8th place squad. Sounders 16s are 11-3-6 in 2nd going against the 3-11-4 San Juan in 8th. Both teams are in the NorthWest Division (it includes Northern California).

Your late night action is Santos Laguna at Tijuana (where they play on artificial turf). Galavision is carrying the 9 PM start. Sigi Schmid and the coaching staff will be watching this one.

"We're going to look a little bit as to who they play, what group they play. They've been playing a similar group pretty much week in and week out," Sigi said after Friday's practice. "They change Galindo and Figueroa sometimes at marker, sometimes Salinas They change a few people, two or three guys, but a lot of other guys play a lot of minutes. Peralta‘s coming off injury, so it'll be interesting to see how he does. It'll be interesting what happens with Quintero, because he pulled up with an injury. It'll give us a little bit of an indication of maybe who's injured and who's putting extra minutes on their backs, and hopefully we can take advantage of that."

Crossfire plays Saturday at Marymoor against Salt Lake. Their starts are 11AM and 1:30PM.

Sunday - Sounders U18s, U16s
Salt Lake isn't a large population center so the Academy catchment for RSL includes Arizona. This is also where their residency based Academy is located. At 11AM and 1:30PM the two teams face off take the pitch at Starfire Stadium. RSL is currently 14-3-3 and first in the SouthWest division for the 18s and 13-3-4 in 2nd for their 16s.
