The worst kept secret surrounding the Seattle Sounders is that they are planning to field a USL Pro team next season. Now, they've scheduled a press conference for
next Tuesday today at 2 p.m. at which they are expected to unveil that team, which would presumably include the name, home venue and likely some other details.
But there's an air intrigue around the announcement as the release calls it an "unprecedented event." The LA Galaxy have a USL Pro team already. Real Salt Lake and the Montreal Impact have already formalized their intentions. The Portland Timbers are expected to make a similar announcement around the same time. Vancouver announced an intention to play in USL PRO in 2015, but their stadium plan fell through.
The Sounders have been reasonably good about not overplaying their hand on things like this, so they must have something up their sleeves. The event is being held at the Chihuly Garden and Glass, which is in Seattle Center. The last time the Sounders staged an event at Seattle Center was to announce their move to MLS. This clearly won't be as monumental, but it does add more room for speculation.
Anyone got theories as to what could be "unprecedented" about this?
