Sounders Academy grad, HGP prospect, and recent US national team player Jordan Morris has been named a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy — the most prestigious individual award in college soccer. Morris is the first Sounder ever to make it this close to the award and is one of only four Sophomores among the 16 semifinalists.
It's likely that Morris' surprise multiple call-ups to the senior national team — which made him the first college player to get a US cap since Ante Razov in 1995 ‐ had as much to do with his selection as his performances for Stanford. With his significant time away on national team duty (which included youth national team games as well), he had fewer goals and assists than he did in his Freshman season last year.
The three finalists will be named in the middle of December and the trophy will be awarded on January 9. Given the amount of interest in the Mercer Island-raised Morris, it's entirely possible he'll be signed to a pro contract by the time that trophy is handed out.
