Two years ago Jordan Morris was the Washington State Player of the Year. Since that accolade he joined the Sounders Academy where he scored 27 goals in 28 games winning the USSDA Player of Year at the U18 level, he was called to the US U20s and U21s and trained in Everton for a few days. As of today Morris will join six other former Academy players on the Sounders U23s.
Sounders U-23 GM and Head Coach, Darren Sawatzky said in the press release, "Jordan Morris is an exciting young player and he seems to excel at every level he gets the opportunity to play at. The U-23 team is a great place for him to continue his rise in the game during the summer months."
Morris will likely partner up top with UW star Darwin Jones. Other former Academy players include Jamael Cox, Chase Hanson, Ryan Herman, Micheal Gallagher, Ian Lange, and Jordan Schweitzer.
TopDrawerSoccer recently talked (paywall) to US U20 & U21 Coach Tab Ramos about Morris and the other non-pro on the U21 squad and the need for them to go pro soon. Morris is now following the same path that Yedlin, Okoli and Kovar did prior to signing contracts with Seattle Sounders FC.
The Sounders U23s start preseason play on May 5th against Western Washington.
