The Sounders U23s will continue to be a pretty good peek into the future of the parent club. After signing Jordan Schweitzer, Ian Lange and Michael Gallagher on Friday, the Sounders U23s have already signed six academy alums to this year's squad.
"We welcome back three of our blossoming college players for the summer to further assess and prepare them for their fall college seasons," Sounders U23 manager Darren Sawatzky said in a news release. "It is great to watch them grow as they reach for the highest level."
Ryan Herman, Darwin Jones and Chase Hanson had all signed previously. Non-Sounders Academy alums Clement Simonin and Austin Dunker have also signed on for the upcoming PDL season, which starts on May 5 at Sumner's Sunset Stadium.
Schweitzer, Lange and Gallagher have all previously played for the Sounders U23s. Schweitzer logged 709 minutes in the PDL last summer and is coming off a sophomore season at the University of Denver in which he started 19 of 20 matches. Lange, currently a sophomore at University of Washington, had four goals in 14 appearances last year in a season that got a late start after he underwent knee surgery. Gallagher, another UW defender, started 20 games for the Huskies.
