St. Vincent and the Grenadines forward pair Oalex Anderson and Myron Samuel both had options exercised by Seattle Sounders FC 2 and will return to the Starfire based team in 2016. Colombian National and former Whitecaps Academy and Kistap Pumas midfielder/forward Carlos Patino was also retained via the option mechanism.
Two S2 players remained under contract for the next season - Tyler Miller (Keeper) and Amadou Sanyang (Defensive Mid).
Miller, Anderson and released players Sergio Mota (Attacking Mid) and Ashani Fairclough (Centerback, Right Back) will practice with the first team during the preseason.
Several of the players cut had more Sounders connects than just one year with S2. Both Fairclough and Aaron Long (CDM, CB, RB) played for the first team in the past. Duncan McCormick was a member of the Academy. The remaining cuts were Danny Faundez (K), Giuliano Frano (CDM, RB), Nick Miele (CB) and Pablo Rossi (AM, F).
"2015 has been an exciting year for the developmental side of the club and we're happy with the progress that was made with S2 in our inaugural season," said Sounders FC 2 General Manager Andrew Opatkiewicz via press release. "The group of players that contributed were diverse, but all of them put forward a great effort and we are extremely appreciative of that. We're pleased to be welcoming some of them back for 2016, and are especially excited about the prospect of some of our young prospects joining the First Team for preseason training. For those who aren't returning, we wish them the best in their careers going forward."
In post-season conference calls Sounders President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey indicated that S2 needed to have a more consistent lineup with younger players that gave more Academy players chances. A roster of just five players and senior team with 3 HGPs provides ample opportunity for trialists, draftees and the next generation of Academy talent.
