Using more Academy players than typical Seattle Sounders FC 2 beat Timbers 2, again. S2's 2-nil win puts them at 5-0 against their southern neighbor in both USL and Open Cup play. Giuliano Frano, starting at right back, scored the opening goal when he deflected an Aaron Long header into the net. Aaron Kovar started the sequence with a free kick.
Oalex Anderson scored the second goal with an amazing run from just the attacking side of the centerline. With the ball at his feet he went straight for goal, crossed over when the 18 passed underfoot and shot. He needed no creator. He was his own creator.

Issaquah native and Academy player Saif Kerawala started in net and earned his first shutout in USL play. It was the seventh shutout of the season for S2 (Lyon with 4 and Perkins, Miller with 1). In the first half he was tested often, but T2 threatened less often after about 60 minutes. They struggled to crack the Kovar, Miele, Fairclough, Frano backline. With Sanyang and Long sitting back in front of them it was the strongest the S2's defense looked in some time.
The S2 attack mostly consisted of long balls or throughballs looking to spring Anderson. His speed was an ever-present challenge for the lesser Timbers. With Pablo Rossi hovering between the lines he also had a drop off target nearby often.
Friday night's win puts S2 at the top of the table with Galaxy II playing T2 on Sunday. LA can retake first with a win.
