Sounders Academy midfielder called to US Youth Team

Azriel Gonzalez will join the US U16s at the Val-de-Marne Tournament in France

One Seattle Sounders Academy player is among the 20 boys called to the United States U16 Boys National Team for the upcoming tournament. At Val-de-Marne the US will face England, Russia and France. Azriel Gonzalez is currently with the Sounders U16s where he’s started four times in the young USSDA season. Seattle’s U16s are 1-2-3 -1 at 5th place in the NW Division.

Azriel previously was the leading scorer at the Youdan Trophy with five goals. Gonzalez is a midfielder currently in the Renton area. He has one start (with a goal) with Seattle’s U18s in addition to his four with the U16s. The midfielder split time between the U16 and U14 level last season scoring five times while playing up and once with the 14s. He earned eight starts and five sub appearances in the 2015/16 season.

Gonzalez is one of 13 MLS tied Academy players who received the call. Four others are in the USSDA but not tied to MLS teams. Two are playing abroad. One is not with a professional or USSDA club.
