In Tukwila today, Sounders FC 2 will cross paths with a stuttering Timbers 2. S2 and T2 sit two points apart, but the Cascadia rivals have come from different places on the table to be where they are today.
S2 have traveled from last place. They’re unbeaten in their previous three games, having scored three goals (including a brace from Darwin Jones) last Saturday. T2 are winless in six. Last weekend they were skewered 4-1 by a visiting LA Galaxy II.
A win today would put S2 three points out of a playoff spot. The problem is that win streaks and loss streaks are easily broken: Just because S2 have risen to the point that T2 have fallen to, doesn’t mean that they’ll keep rising. S2 will have to fight hard everywhere on the field if they want to continue climbing into the off-season.
