Sounders U23s fall to OSA in Open Cup

They enter league play with a 1-2-0 +2 record.

The Sounders from the Rhubarb Pie Capitol have been active this week, playing two matches. They drew one and lost the other on PKs.

Since we told you about the 3-1 victory, the Under 23s have gone on the road twice more. On May 7th, the University of Washington Huskies hosted the Under 23s at Husky Soccer Stadium. The U23s and Huskies each scored two goals and the match ended level at 2-2.

On May 10th the U23s would take the field in a US Open Cup match versus Olympic Soccer Academy Football Club (OSA FC). In what was the first meeting between the two sides, it looked like OSA FC would win. As time ticked away, the Under 23s found footing and started to gain momentum. Each team had chances to score in the first and second half, but neither managed to score. Both teams also had chances to score in extra time but neither was able to apply the finishing touch.

A looping header from a Sounders U23s player looked like it had found the back of the net, but it ended up just over. Later OSA got even closer when one of their shots struck the post. Since both sides did not score thru extra time they went to a shoot out. OSA was clinical from the spot and scored all 5 of their chances. The U23s only missed one of their PKs but that was enough to lose them the match.

OSA advance to face Reno 1868 at Starfire on May 17 at 7:30 PM.

After 3 matches the U23s are 1-2-0. The next match will be on Friday May 19th at Bonney Lake High School in Bonney Lake. Kickoff is at 7:30 pm and it will be a U23 Cascadia Cup derby match with the Timbers U23 affiliate.
