Sounders U23s prep for US Open Cup with victory over Hammers

Adam Jones had a stellar night in the win.

The Sounders U23’s began 2017 play with a 3-1 friendly victory over Bellingham United of the Evergreen Premier League. Adam Jones led the U23’s from the middle of the park logging an assist and a goal. Joining Jones on the score sheet was Abdi Galgalo and Eddie Na with goals, and Colton Cavey with an assist on the Eddie Na goal. United scored a late consolation goal.

Darren Sawatsky had this to say on the match, “It is still early for us as our college kids are coming into town. Tonight was a good exercise against a well run and coached team.”

Darren also commented on Wednesday’s US Open Cup match, saying “The Open Cup will be a test for sure early in the year. It is a great competition and the young guys are up to the challenge.”

The Sounders U23’s next match will be their first in competitive play this year, a US Open Cup tilt vs OSA FC of the National Premier Soccer League. The match is Wednesday at 7:30 pm from the historic home of Sounders soccer, Memorial Stadium in Seattle. Tickets are $10 online, and $15 at the door.
