Tonight, the Sounders play their third of four home matches in a week, this time at Starfire. It will be the first meeting between Seattle Sounders FC 2 and Swope Park Rangers this season. Unfortunately, S2 come up against Swope Park while the are in their ascendancy. After struggling early in the season, the Rangers have now won six matches in a row and have not lost in nine. They are good both offensively and defensively, averaging just under two goals a game and only 0.9 goals allowed. The Rangers are the first team S2 has faced this season that has a higher tackle success rate than their own. The Rangers also boast an impressively high 83% completion percentage on the season.
S2 will need to be disciplined and patient in this one. They will probably spend long spells without the ball, but that is okay. The way to beat a team like Swope Park is to let them pass too much, and without purpose. If S2 can keep the spaces tight in the defensive third, they have a good chance at limiting the Rangers’ scoring chances.
