After many weeks spent comfortably in a playoff position, a 5 game losing streak has sent Seattle Sounders FC 2 plummeting down the table. It is kind of shocking how quickly S2 has gotten themselves in a dire position. While they are only 3 points out of the 8th spot, all of the teams between S2 and the playoffs have a minimum of 2 games in hand. Confidence can be a fickle beast, and this young S2 side is struggling to lure it back into the fold. Facing Rio Grande Valley FC, a team that is just 2-6-2 on the road, at Starfire is a very good chance for S2 to get at least a point and slow the fall a bit.
RGV FC are a solid offensive team with a good flow. They don’t necessarily boss possession but they do make a lot of passes and complete them at an impressive rate of 80%. They don’t have any truly dominant offensive players but they spread the scoring responsibilities fairly well, with 10 players with at least 2 goals or assists. When these two teams faced earlier in the season RGV FC were one of the best defensive sides in the USL, but since then they have really struggled to keep clean sheets, and might actually be one of the worst defenses at the moment. There will almost certainly be goals in this game, S2 will need to score more.
