When Seattle Sounders FC 2 went down to Reno to face Reno 1868 FC early this season, they came away licking their wounds after a devastating 6-0 loss. It was by far the worst performance of the year for the stalwart Rodrigue Ele/Sam Rogers center back pairing, with Ele particularly struggling. S2 were already down 2-0 when Ele was sent off in the 34’. While the refereeing was, perhaps, questionable, there is no denying that S2 were horrible on defense. Since that game, both CBs have only continued to improve, and we should see Ele and Rogers back together for the first time in many weeks tonight. It is unlikely that S2 lose by 6 again, but Reno are one of the hottest teams in the USL, on a six-match win streak, so the task will not be easy at Starfire tonight.
Reno are by far S2’s toughest remaining opponent. A win could be a huge confidence booster and might start the run of form they need to make the playoffs. With only 6 games left, S2 probably need at least 15 point of the remaining 18 points available. It is time for them to make their last stand.
