Seattle Sounders FC 2 have made their first new signings of the offseason, today announcing the additions of 15-year-old Ray Serrano and 18-year-old Ibrahim Usman.
Serrano is an attacking midfielder who has shined since joining the Sounders Academy in 2016. Over the last year he has scored 17 goals in 17 games playing up with the Sounders U17 team. In addition to his success with the Academy U17s, Serrano joined the First Team for their preseason trip to Arizona and put in an excellent shift against the Portland Timbers. He followed that up by holding his own against the Columbus Crew the next day. If Serrano can bring some of his goal-scoring prowess to the USL he will be an exciting player to watch this season.
Sounders FC Director of Player Development Marc Nicholls said of Serrano via press release, “He is a creative, dynamic player with a fierce desire to work and compete. Our Academy staff rates him very highly, and a big part of that is his first-rate character and appetite to learn and improve.”
Usman is a speedy left back that has been linked with a move to S2 over the past couple of months. He joins from Nigerian side Eco FC. Usman has spent time with the Nigerian U20s and joins Nouhou and Nick Hinds as yet another promising young left back prospect.
We don’t know as much about Usman as we do Serrano, but Nicholls said of the Nigerian, “Ibrahim comes with a strong reputation and fits the positional profile and organizational need of a left fullback, We look forward to him settling in as we launch our preseason.”
S2 now have 12 players under contract for the 2018 season.
