After a tough result over the weekend Seattle Sounders FC 2 are back in Tacoma looking to right the ship and begin solidifying a strong Cheney based home field advantage. Their opponent is expansion side Fresno FC, also known as The Foxes, who are looking for their first win in franchise history after losing to Vegas Lights and tying Los Dos in their opening two games. The Foxes are still trying to figure things out defensively and have let up goals in the first 5’ of both their matches so far, so it will be key for S2 to apply pressure to their unsure backline early.
S2 have struggled to control the middle of the pitch in both of their games this season. They should be receiving some reinforcements at defensive midfield in the shape of Ray Saari and/or Francisco Narbon but the attacking midfielders will still need to add a little more defensive balance to their game than they have so far this season. If they can find the right balance S2 could easily get their first shutout of the season and score a couple goals to boot.
It should also be noted that Fresno FC are the Vancouver Whitecaps’ USL affiliate this year so this is sort of a pseudo-Cascadia match, though it is unlikely to carry any of the rivalry emotions for the players.
