Two well-taken goals put Sounders U17’s in GA Cup final

Marlon Vargas scores one and helps set up another in 2-1 win over Montreal Impact.

Behind goals from Ray Serrano and Marlon Vargas, the Sounders U17’s beat the Montreal Impact 2-1 on Thursday to advance to the GA Cup finals in the Premier Division.

The Sounders got out to a blazing start, opening the scoring in the 4th minute. That’s when Connor Drought cut in on the wing and found Marlon Vargas, who sliced through a couple more defenders and squeezed off a shot in traffic. Although the shot was saved, the rebound came out to Serrano, who finished it easily.

A straight red left Montreal at a disadvantage, but they were still able to pull one back on a counter. The Sounders moved back ahead quickly after the Impact equalizer, and Vargas was involved again. This time, Vargas finished off a sweet pass from Azriel Gonzalez to put the Sounders back ahead.

The Sounders will face the Red Bulls in the final on Saturday, with time still to be determined. The match will be streamed on YouTube at 3:30 p.m.
