The Seattle Sounders 2 team we have seen over the last 6 weeks is much different than the one that struggled to do anything positive the first several months of the season. They are more consistent and better on both offense and defense. While this improvement hasn’t yet bore fruit on the road, it has within the confines of Cheney. As a result, S2 will have the chance to get a result in four straight home games for the first time since July 19 of last year and for the first time ever in Tacoma. Winning isn’t the top priority at S2, but it would be a huge bonus to get these kids used to winning games on the banks of Puget Sound.
It will not be an easy task to keep the unbeaten streak going today though, as S2 must do it against one of the Western Conference’s best teams, Orange County SC. S2 have a decent record against Orange County SC (and their previous iteration Orange County Blues), but this is a better, more complete OC team than years past. They are in the top three in goals scored and goals allowed, doubling S2’s tally in the former and halving it in the latter. OC have the Golden Boot leader, Thomas Enevoldsen, leading the attack and one of the league’s best goalkeepers, Andre Rawls, anchoring the defense. This will definitely be S2’s stiffest task during this Cheney unbeaten run, but if they score first and communicate well along the backline, they will have a shot at ending the day with some points.
