Seattle Sounders 2 are back in south Texas for the second week in a row, this time at one of the nations many Toyota sponsored fields in San Antonio, hoping for a better performance than the one they put in against RGV last week. The task will be tougher — San Antonio are a much better team who sit one spot out of the playoffs with it all to fight for — but the goals will be the same. The playoffs are gone, the season dusted, but the players still have their individual spots to play for. No one improved their standing last week, and a few may have hurt theirs, so everyone will be desperate to show they have better road performances in them.
San Antonio are a middling to bottom third team on both offense and defense. It is a team that, if everyone on S2 played their best, S2 could beat fairly easily. But, consistency is so often the bain of the young player. If we went off of their best, there would be four, five, maybe even six players on S2 ready for the First Team, but that is not how it works. This is a perfect game for players like Hopeau and Ele to start an end of season run of form to show they can be consistently great at this level, to show they are ready to take the next step. It is up to them to make the First Team consider them for next year, and the time to do it is now.
