Seattle Sounders 2 have become a different team in recent weeks and have gone unbeaten in five straight matches at home. The improved form has yet to result in improved results on the road however but after a thrilling second half on Wednesday the young sounders will hope to carry that momentum into tonight’s match and start to see their improved play pay dividends away from Tacoma. It will not be an easy task however. Their opponent, Sacramento Republic FC, is a much better team than the Tulsa team that S2 drew in the week. S2 has also lost six times in six tries at Sacramento, so they would need to accomplish something they never have before to continue their string of results. That said, confidence is a powerful force and S2 will have a ton of it after pulling back three goals against Tulsa.
In order to get a result S2 will also need to do something they have been able to do in two tries so far this season; stop Villyan Bijev and Cameron Iwasa. With the S2 defensive spine extensively hampered by injuries it might be their toughest task of the season, though the addition of Sounders Academy and Oregon State alum Jalen Markey this week could provide some much needed experience to the backline. Still, it will be a tough ask of the young centerbacks and inexperienced defensive midfielders, but if they can at least limit the damage and keep Sacramento to a goal or two, the much improved S2 attack has shown they have the ability to score multiple goals in a game. They may just have the offensive talent needed to win another 4, 5 or even 8 goal slugfest.
