Danny Leyva scores his first professional goal

16-year-old scores in Defiance’s first road win of the season.

Danny Leyva’s progress has not been measured in goals or assists, so the fact that he had not yet scored was a professional was not of particular concern to anyone. Still, his first professional goal likely comes as quite a relief to the 16-year-old, who had a goal improperly disallowed in his MLS debut earlier this year.

This one came after the Tacoma Defiance were already well on their way to their first road win of the season, a convincing 4-1 victory over second-place Fresno FC on Saturday.

The left-footed strike came after a nice pass from Azriel Gonzalez and capped off what has to be the Defiance’s most impressive performance of the season. Not only was it their first road win of the season, but it came against a Fresno team that was second in the USL Championship’s Western Conference and had recently ended Phoenix Rising’s 20-game winning streak.
