The good news is that if you were planning to watch Sounders soccer tonight you still can despite an April blizzard canceling the First Team’s match. That’s because the Tacoma Defiance are at Orange County SC tonight where the weather will be just about perfect for soccer; 72ºF with humidity in the low 20%s. This match marks the start of a 5-game road trip where the Defiance will hope to get their first road win (something S2 did not accomplish until the last day of the regular season last year). With the GA cup starting this weekend and the First Team in the midst of some fixture congestion (well, at least travel congestion) so Tacoma will be somewhat limited in their roster choices. Though it is possible that Sam Rogers could make his first appearance of the season, which would help considerably at one of Tacoma’s thinnest positions.
Tacoma have a record of 1-4-1 -5 record against Orange County SC, who finished at the top of the Western Conference table last season. They have gotten off to a rough start this season though, going 1-2-2 in their opening 5 matches. They have a pretty good goal scoring record so far this season with 9, though they should probably have scored more than that with the amount of chances they have created. Their leading scorer is once Seattle Sounder Darwin Jones (who is also the only person in TAC/S2 history to score a hattrick). Where OCSC has really struggled is on the defensive end where they let in 2.2 goals per match. With Tacoma also struggling on defense this could be a wide open match with a lot of goals in it.
