With the Sounders Academy in the GA CUp final today the Tacoma Defiance are going to be shorthanded for their game against Phoenix Rising. Despite this Tacoma will be desperate to put in a decent performance on the road; so far they have have not scored away from home and have let in four or more goals in each match. Honestly, a win might be out of reach this weekend but if they can get a goal and limit Phoenix to two goals it will something they can build on for when they get their full squad back. The two defensive midfielders must give the backline more help if the Defiance are hoping to escape with less than four hung on them.
The Defiance’s opponents have gotten off to a rough start as well. After a season where they spent most of the year near the top of the table they find themselves struggling with a 1-1-4 record. Early on they were unable to keep their opponents out of the net but have improved as of late, letting in just 1 goal in their last three. Unfortunately for them their offense dried up just as their defense rounded into form. That said, Phoenix have a ton of goal scorers on their team and the offense could light up at anytime. So far this year they have shared the scoring load with Adam Jahn, Jason Johnson, Junior Flemmings and Solomon Asante all on 2 goals.
It’s hard to say which Phoenix Rising will show up today, but regardless teh Defiance will need to be much better than they have been to end their streak of being embarrassed on the road.
