The Tacoma Defiance are finally back at Cheney Stadium after more than a month spent flying around the western part of the country. The familiar light green shadow of the Rainiers’ baseball diamond will be a welcome sight after Defiance had their worst ever five match stretch on the road.
Their oppenent in their first game back will be the only team in the USL that they have a winning record against (11-3-0 +10), Portland Timbers 2. It’s a match Tacoma/S2 have always been able to get up for and provides the Defiance an excellent chance to get things back on the rails. That said Portland has a better team than in years past and currently sit 3rd in the Western Conference of the USL Championship. They are a more experienced side who are led from Central Midfield by Eryk Williamson who leads the Championship in assists with 6.
Portland is likely to score in this match and the Defiance will need one of their forwards to step up their finishing if they want to get enough goals to walk away with three points.
