After a four-hour bus ride though Texas and Oklahoma — weather forced their plane to land in Amarillo, Texas — the Tacoma Defiance are hoping for a win against the Oklahoma City Energy. A win would put an end to a dismal run where the Defiance have lost their last four and seven of their last eight. A win today would also be Tacoma’s first in Oklahoma City where they are 0-3-1 -6. Honestly though, the Defiance are currently absolutely reeling and just letting in two or fewer goals could be a major mental victory and something to begin to build on when they return home from this five-game road trip.
After a wild beginning to the season that saw the Energy involved in several shoot-outs things have calmed down a bit in Oklahoma City. Their defense has improved significantly in the last month but, unfortunately for them, their scoring has dried up at the same time. It’s hard to know which version of the Energy offense will show up but it will be key for the Defiance backline to stop the Energy’s two wingers if they want the less prolific one to feature; Owayne Omar Gordon leads the Energy with 3 goals and 2 assists while his opposite and former Sounder Cordell Cato is right behind him with 2 goals and 2 assists. The Defiance will need a better defensive performance from their central midfielders than they have had all season if they are to have any hope of slowing them down.
