With his college season recently concluded, the Tacoma Defiance signed South King County native Joe Hafferty on Sunday. Hafferty, who was acquired by the Seattle Sounders in a draft-day trade, will be eligible to play in today’s match against Orange County SC.

“It’s wonderful to bring Joe back to the club after a successful career at Oregon State,” said Sounders FC Director of Player Development Henry Brauner. “He progressed through our academy as a teenager, so it’s an easy transition into the culture and expectations of our organization.”

Hafferty closed out his college career by being named First Team all-Pac-12 for the second straight year and helping Oregon State qualify for the Division I men’s soccer tournament. Hafferty had an assist in his final game, an overtime loss to Virginia Tech.

“I’m looking forward to seeing Joe come and compete within our squad,” Defiance head coach Wade Webber said. “Joe is a player with a wealth of collegiate experience, in addition to a number of years in our academy. He is an excellent addition to our group.”
