Three reasons to watch Defiance v. LA Galaxy II with us

Tacoma are hosting Los Dos. LA brought the heat with them.

Avoid the heat and watch Tacoma Defiance host LA Galaxy II in a key Pacific Division matchup. The two sides are in the battle for the playoffs, and each side drew 1-1 in their last match.

Wade Webber’s side used a 90+1’ goal by Samuel Adeniran to earn their draw on Wednesday. Falling behind early, the fight never stopped as Tacoma outshot and out-hustled Real Monarchs in a match that saw 9 yellow cards.

Sunday’s game is another versus an MLS2 side, and another against one with a history of success. Galaxy II are a dominant attacking side in 2021. Preston Judd has 7 goals already and Jorge Hernández has 5 (he’s also their creative force). Both teams will be in unusually high temperatures, with the current forecast for Tacoma at kick being 100°F. Expect water breaks and attendees should hydrate, too. There will be limited shade with a 1:30 PM PT kickoff.

538 has Tacoma as the favorites (44% chance for a win). American Soccer Analysis have Defiance favored with a home-away xPoints advantage of 0.60. A win would keep Tacoma in the hunt with Los Dos and Republic for that 4th playoff spot. Goalkeeper Andrew Thomas is available for the Defiance on a standard loan from the Sounders.

Why You Should Watch

  1. Samuel Adeniran! This guy is exciting. A veteran of lower divisions in Spain, Germany, and Portugal, he’s showing promise using his body and speed with a lengthy touch radius to cause problems for USL defenses.
  2. Is Issa Rayyan the next wingback? Once a promising winger with Bethlehem Steel/Philadelphia Union 2, Rayyan is one of the three fastest sprinters and two best runners on Defiance. His conversion to wingback is going well in the attack and his defense continues to improve. Issa suffered two of the yellows and four fouls last match, as it seems the best way to stop him is to knock him down.
  3. You’re stuck inside anyway. It’s hot — too hot. Midday soccer is the perfect way to enjoy a day inside.
