Riding their recently strong home form Oakland Roots are charging up the Pacific Division standings. No longer a distant eighth, the sixth place Roots are targeting a playoff spot. The team in their way is Tacoma Defiance. Tacoma’s ambitions go beyond just making it above the red line, but possibly hosting a home game. To do that they have to finish in second in the Pacific.

Tonight's 7 PM match is a key Pacific Division contest and a fun night to see Wade Webber work his tactics without significant loandowns.

Why You Should Watch

  • Ray Serrano, Seriously Good: He starts the day 6th in the league for assists and 3rd for assists per 90. The versatile player can play wingback, wide forward, or attacking mid. No matter where he is he finds passing lanes.
  • Depth at the Level: While the top end talent gets all the attention the team is now 5 deep at CB, 5 deep at wingback, and 3 deep at DM. There’s more keepers in the org than a team that has four levels would need.
  • Adeniran’s Sorcery: Remember all the fun ish Raul and Fredy tried last night? That’s what Sam Adeniran channels on the pitch. He’s just fun to watch.
  • Tower of Power: Sure, the centerback corp has USL legend Mueller, young upstart Kinzner, the future US citizen/MLS player? Brewitt, and your favorite kobold Mendoza — it also has what may be the last of an era. Jackson Ragen could be an MLS talent. He’s looked that good. And he’s the last non-keeper who will go to a four-year college and maybe sign with Seattle, if he makes it. The Tower of Power is more than large. He has soft feet and gets forward in possession.
  • Carlos Anguiano: Second on the team in scoring you could think the under-sized DM is just filler. He’s actually the most important player on the field. He controls pace in attack and is a stalwart defensively. The former T2 player will be a long time pro.
