Fending off two challengers below while still hopeful of a home game in the USL Championship playoffs, Tacoma Defiance are home again for a two-match week. That starts Wednesday night (7 PM PT, ESPN+) against Sacramento Republic, the current 6th seed with 26 points and a 6-9-8, -5 record.

Wade Webber’s Defiance are currently the 4 seed in the Pacific and 8th in the West. Their 8-8-6, -2 record is buoyed by an impressive 6-1-3, +7 record at Cheney Stadium this year.

The two teams have only met once this season, a draw in Tacoma thanks to a Randy Mendoza goal. Defiance trail the all-time series with a 3-12-4, -18 record. At home they have fared better, 3-3-2, +1.

Why You Should Watch

  • Long Awaited Party: Defiance return home after a few weeks away. They are much better in the comfort of their shire. There must not be a scouring.
  • Fellowship: There will be no support from the Sounders loandowns. They’re on a quest for a Cup. The simultaneous matches are similar to when the group splits, with both goals needing to be accomplished at once.
  • Sting: Strike sharp and quick. The talent on Defiance is enough to win when they use their strengths. There’s no need to go toe-to-toe with Sacramento.
  • Embrace the Took: When faced with adventure and opportunity, embrace that. Show courage. Leave what is expected and discover what you are capable of.
