The Seattle Sounders had by far their best game of the young season in their 5-0 demolition of CF Montreal on Saturday night, and people took notice.

First the Team of the Matchday came out, featuring Alex Roldan and Raúl Ruidíaz in the XI for their performances, as well as Albert Rusnák on the bench.

The accolades for Seattle’s play over the weekend didn’t stop there, though. Raúl Ruidíaz was not only named to the Team of the Matchday, but for his two goals and assist he was also named Player of the Matchday.

Ruidíaz opened the scoring for the Sounders with his delightful-but-deflected shot from near the top of the box in the 20th, and doubled the lead with his penalty just a few minutes later. The brace was his first multi-goal game of the season, and his 16th in all competitions for the Sounders. As if that wasn’t enough for the no. 9, Ruidíaz was also credited with a secondary assist for his part in the buildup to Alex Roldan’s 81st minute goal.

This marks the fifth time that Ruidíaz has been named Player of the Matchday, surpassing Clint Dempsey and Jordan Morris for the most among Sounders players. And he may not be done accruing accolades for the week just yet, as his opening goal is also up for Goal of the Matchday and he currently leads the vote.
