Timbers vs. Sounders: Gamethread

After a few years of the Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers meeting each other at odd times in their seasons, the longtime rivals face off on relatively equal footing and similar places in the standings. The Timbers have lost just once in their last 10 games, while the Sounders are 4-1-1 in their past six. A win could push the Timbers as high as second in the Western Conference, while the Sounders can jump as high as third.

Both teams are coming off midweek road games, but rotated significantly. The Timbers tied RSL 0-0 and the Sounders lost to LAFC 4-0.

Neither team is at completely full strength, but they are close enough that it shouldn’t be an obvious issue.

Notes

  • The Sounders and Timbers have played one another 40 times in the MLS regular season, splitting those games 15-15-10.
  • This will be the 123rd all-time meeting in the clubs’ history that dates back to 1975.
  • Albert Rusnák is two goals away from becoming just the second player in MLS history to record at least 25 goals and 25 assists for two different teams.
