Sounders vs. Austin FC: Gamethread
The Seattle Sounders return to league play today after two weeks of Club World Cup play. They'll face an Austin FC opponent who also had the last two weeks off, albeit on a bye, that is tied with them in the Western Conference standings. The winning team can potentially move up as high as fifth in the table.
The Sounders come into today's match against Austin FC with just one healthy and available natural centerback. Alex Roldan is expected to get the start next to Jackson Ragen.
Notes
- The grass that was used for the Club World Cup is supposed to still be in, which would mark the first time the Sounders have played a regular-season match on grass since 2011. It will likely be removed after the match.
- Austin FC is currently the lowest scoring team in MLS with 15 goals through 19 games. That puts them on pace to become just the third team in the last 12 seasons to score fewer than 30 goals in a 34-game season.
- Brandon Vazquez and Brad Stuver were both recently named to the MLS All-Star Game. The match will be played in Austin and is being coached by Nico Estevez, who selected both players.
