On Wednesday, March 25, Seattle Reign FC begins a three-match home series in Spokane, hosting the Kansas City Current at 6 p.m. PT. The match at ONE Spokane Stadium will air on FOX 13+ and NWSL+.
Reign FC (1-1-0, 3 points) enters the match after a frustrating 2-0 loss to their rivals, the Portland Thorns, despite having a two-player advantage following two red cards to the Thorns. Kansas City (1-1-0, 3 points) will also be looking to bounce back after a 2-1 road loss to Chicago Stars FC.
"We're excited about it," head coach Laura Harvey said about the team's opportunity to host three home games in Spokane. She referenced the strong atmosphere in the Sounders' Concacaf match in Spokane last week. "We hope our fans can bring a really good, positive, energetic atmosphere to put these players in a really good spot to give them the best chance of doing a good performance tomorrow for everybody."
"I watched the Sounders game last week, and I could hear the crowd through the screen. So we're really excited to make that our fortress for the time being," defender Madison Curry added.

While Mia Fishel, Shae Holmes, and Jordyn Bugg remain on the injury report, midfielder Sally Menti is available for this match.
Head-to-Head
Wednesday’s match marks the 14th meeting between Seattle and Kansas City across all NWSL competitions, with the series tied at 6-6-1. The sides split the 2025 season series, with the Current earning a 2-0 win at home and the Reign also earning a shutout in their 1-0 win earlier in the season. The Reign are 4-1-1 against the Current at home.
Key departures
The reigning NWSL Shield winners, who had a historic 2025 season, said goodbye to several key players this offseason. That includes holding midfielder Claire Hutton, now a regular with the U.S. Women's National Team, who transferred to Bay FC. The Current also parted ways with Brazilian forward Bia Bia Zaneratto, Canadian forward Nichelle Prince, 18-year-old Alex Pfeiffer, who is coming off an ACL tear and scored Bay FC's opening goal this year, and fullback Hailie Mace.
Key additions
The blockbuster addition for the Current this offseason was creative attacking midfielder Croix Bethune. The third-year player was named Midfielder and Rookie of the Year in 2024 and continued to be a key player for the Spirit last year.
What to watch
Showing more offensively: After a strong showing against Orlando for their season opener, it can't be overstated just how flat the Reign looked offensively with a two-player advantage against Portland. Was that a one-time issue that they've corrected, or are the Reign going to continue to struggle to break down opponents and create chances — an ongoing issue last season? According to Harvey, the team has been focused on how they get back to the things they know they are good at.
"I think just very much stripping the game back, not the Portland game, but just soccer in general, on reminding ourselves of the really good things we've been doing up until the Portland game, that if we continue to do those really good things, that we will be absolutely fine."
Transitional play: The second goal that the Chicago Stars scored against Kansas City last weekend came in a transitional moment — and was scored by former Reign forward Jordyn Huitema, who got her head on Ryan Gareis' cross.

The Reign showed against the Pride that they want to be a high-pressing team and a team that can strike in transition — just like Chicago did this weekend. On the flip side, the second goal that Portland scored against the Reign on Friday night came in transition because the Reign gave the ball away. That's something they can't afford to do against the Current, who have plenty of speedy players, including right winger and USWNT forward Michelle Cooper. Can the Reign create moments of magic on the counter, while also preventing Kansas City from getting transitional moments of their own?
Set pieces: While they didn't allow the Pride to score on a set piece in their season opener, the Reign still looked a little shaky defending corner kicks and set pieces. They were punished on Friday against the Thorns, failing to defend a corner kick and allowing Pietra Tordin a free opportunity to flick Olivia Moultrie's cross into the goal. Can the Reign be more dominant in the box on set pieces against the Current? And can they look more threatening when they get free kick opportunities?
Who to watch
Izzy Rodriguez: The left back has one of the most dangerous crosses in the game, and the naturally left-footed player often takes set pieces for the Current. Her assist on the Current's lone goal this weekend made Rodriguez the all-time assist leader for the club, with 12. Rodriguez does like to get high on the left wing, which means the Reign will have to be aware of overloads and may try to find space behind her in transition when they win the ball.
Croix Bethune: Bethune is one of the most dangerous players on the ball. She likes to dribble at opponents to suck defenders in and then find a teammate with a slick through ball or pass out wide. Bethune had five goals and 10 assists in her rookie season and added another four goals and three assists last year at the Spirit. She's already scored for the Current as well. Expect the Reign to put a lot of pressure on her when she wins the ball and try to cut off passing options into her.
Ally Sentnor: The U.S. Women's National Team forward made the move to Kansas City last August. Primarily playing as a center forward for the Current, she's looked dangerous so far — getting into the box frequently in Kansas City's season opener against Utah. She scored a goal in that match, and while she's gotten a lot more touches in the box, she also loves to shoot from distance.
