Stuart Hawkins was officially named to the United States U17 World Cup team on Wednesday. Hawkins recently signed a first-team contract with the Sounders, but spent most of the season with Tacoma Defiance in MLS Next Pro, where he started 22 games and logged a little more 2,000 minutes for Wade Webber’s side.

Hawkins has been a regular for the U17s throughout this cycle, claiming 16 caps. Only Austin FC’s Micah Burton (17) has more youth national team caps.

The USA kicks off group stage play on Nov. 12 against South Korea, then plays Burkina Faso on Nov. 15 and finishes the group stage against France on Nov. 18. All three matches will be played at Jakarta International Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia, and will shown on FOX Sports and Telemundo platforms. The tournament runs through Dec. 2.

This will be the first U17 World Cup since 2019 after the 2021 edition was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Ethan Dobbelaere, Danny Leyva and Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez all made the USA team in 2019.
