Defender Alana Cook’s contract option with OL Reign for the 2024 season was automatically exercised, the club announced on Friday. The centerback has been a regular starter since joining the club on a permanent transfer from Paris Saint Germain in June 2021.

"Alana remaining with the club provides great consistency in our backline and allows her to continue to grow in her leadership role in the team,” said general manager Lesle Gallimore in a team release. “She is amongst the best central defenders in world, and we're excited about our future with her here in Seattle."

Cook has made 56 appearances for the Reign, all starts, making her one of 18 players to register at least 50 appearances for the club. Since joining the Reign permanently in 2021, she leads the NWSL in interceptions (115) and is top-5 in clearances (214) and blocks (48). She also logged her first two assists this season.

The US international was named to the NWSL Best XI in 2021 and 2022 and was also a Defender of the Year finalist in 2022.
