Sounders 50th-anniversary kit leaks

It looks like the Sounders might be going with pinstripes.

As happens almost every year, a relatively low-quality rendering of the Seattle Sounders’ new jersey has leaked. This time, it was apparently EAFC’s Ultimate Team Marketplace that put the new primary shirt into the world, along with a few others.

I'll withhold passing too much judgment until I see the actual kit on an actual person, but assuming this is an accurate depiction I will say that it's at least interesting. At first glance, though, I don't quite understand why they'd go with pinstripes for a 50th anniversary jersey, especially considering there isn't supposed to be a third kit until 2025. I will note that the Sounders have used pinstripes before – most visibly in 1983 when they had them on both kits, and more subtlely in 2015 and 2016 – but this overall look does not immediately harken back to a previous era.

Of course, that's probably by design, especially considering there are apparently several full-blown throwbacks around MLS this year. One possibility that was suggested to me is that there are 50 stripes to honor 50 years and that this kit is more designed to look forward, rather than back.

Like I said, though, it's hard to draw too strong of an opinion from a rendering. In the meantime, I'm still much more infatuated with the team's travel gear...
