Sounders vs. San Diego FC: Gamethread

Sounders host San Diego FC at 5:30 PM on AppleTV+.

LINEUPS: The Sounders made just two changes from the weekend, inserting Paul Rothrock for Pedro de la Vega and Jon Bell for the injured Yeimar Gomez Andrade.

The Seattle Sounders will face arguably their biggest test at home this year when they host second-place San Diego FC tonight at 5:30 PM. This will be the second time the Sounders have played San Diego, having taken a 3-0 beating the previous time on the road.

In that game, the Sounders surrendered a 2nd minute goal off a short corner and then fell apart for about five minutes toward the end of the second half when they conceded two more goals in quick succession.

Hopefully, the Sounders have learned some lessons from that game that they are able to apply in this one.

The game also starts a string of three straight matches against the Top 3 teams in the Western Conference, with Minnesota United coming to town on Sunday and the Sounders playing at the Vancouver Whitecaps a week later.

Notes

  • The Sounders come into this game 4-0-2 in league play and 5-0-3 overall at home this year. They are one of just two teams who have not yet lost a home game.
  • Albert Rusnák’s goal on Saturday was the 25th of his Sounders career, making him just the second player in MLS history to have both 25 goals and 25 assists for two different teams.
  • The Sounders have an all-time record of 5-1-4 at home against expansion teams in their debut season.
