The Seattle Sounders resume league play against the suddenly resurgent LA Galaxy. Although they remain last in the West, they've gone 5-2-4 over their last 11 games across all competitions. To help us better understand them, we sent some questions to Alex Ruiz of The Galactic Tribune.
Notable injuries
Riqui Puig is making progress in his ACL recovery but remains out. Center back Emiro Garces was subbed out at halftime in LA's Leagues Cup victory on Thursday. Greg Vanney said he suffered a knock to his ankle. Vanney was unsure if this would keep his out for Sunday's match.
Recent form
The Galaxy is in the best form of the season so far, just one loss in its last eight games across all competitions. This is also the healthiest stretch of the season for LA, so that's played a massive part in picking points during this stretch. LA is looking to parlay its Leagues Cup form into its next MLS regular season matches against Seattle and Miami.
Key players
Matheus Nascimento has been a key contributor in LA's attack over recent weeks. He has five goals and three assists in 22 games across all competitions. His link-up play and work rate stand out the most when watching the Brazilian striker, who signed as a U22 earlier this year.
One thing to know about the Galaxy
Despite being at the bottom of the Supporters' Shield standings, the LA Galaxy still find a way to have their good moments. There have a been a lot of self-inflicted wounds this season but when LA is in a groove, it can go toe-to-toe with all teams in the league.
Projected lineup
4-3-3: Novak Micovic; John Nelson, Zanka, Maya Yoshida, Miki Yamane; Edwin Cerrillo, Diego Fagundez, Marco Reus; Joseph Paintsil, Gabriel Pec, Matheus Nascimento.
