Coming off one of their most impressive performances ever, the Seattle Sounders will now face one of Liga MX’s worst teams in Leagues Cup. Once one of the league’s powers, Santos Laguna have fallen on hard times in recent seasons.

Over the past two tournaments, they’ve finished last in the 18-team league. They played the Colorado Rapids tough in their first Leagues Cup game, but then watched goalkeeper Carlos Acevedo pick up a red in the waning moments.

Although wins have been tough to come by, they have at least been entertaining this season with five goals scored in their first three league matches. They also tend to be a high-pressing team.

The Sounders are coming off a seven-goal outburst against Cruz Azul, the largest margin of victory for a MLS team over a Liga MX opponent in the leagues’ histories.
This will be the sixth time the Sounders have faced Santos Laguna in a competitive match. Their last meeting was in the 2021 Leagues Cup semifinals, which the Sounders won 1-0.
The Sounders have an all-time record of 10-13-5 against Liga MX opponents, which includes a 2-1-2 record against Santos Laguna.
