The Seattle Sounders will get a chance at some kind of redemption tonight when they face Cruz Azul in their opening match of Leagues Cup. Cruz Azul, of course, beat the Sounders earlier this year on their way to winning Concacaf Champions Cup.

In the previous meeting at Lumen Field, the Sounders were arguably the better team but were force to settle for a 0-0 tie. That was one of just two matches Cruz Azul played during their CCC run in which they failed to score, having also tied Club America 0-0. Cruz Azul won the return leg 4-1 to advance easily.

Cruz Azul finished the 2025 Apertura third in the Liga MX table and then lost to Club America in the Liguilla semifinals. They are 1-0-2 so far in the 2025 Clausura.

The Sounders are riding a six-game unbeaten streak, albeit one that includes three ties. They will be looking to build off last year’s run to the Leagues Cup quarterfinals.

The signing of midfielder Snyder Brunell was officially announced on Tuesday. He will be available for selection today.
The Sounders will next face Santos Laguna on Sunday and Club Tijuana on Wednesday in Leagues Cup.
