Seattle Reign forward/defender Veronica Latsko has announced her retirement from professional soccer at the end of the 2025 season, the team revealed on Friday. A celebration of her career will be held at this Sunday’s game against Racing Louisville. She will be staying in Seattle to pursue a law degree and plans to stay involved with the sport on the policy and advocacy side.
“From the moment I was traded to Seattle, I was fully embraced by the players and coaching staff, and it immediately felt like a family. Regardless of how you were performing on the field, you consistently had that family feel. They were there for you through the highs and the lows. To have everyone in Seattle in my corner and feel that constant support... that’s why this has become such a home to me and is the place I want to stay in the next part of my career,” said Latsko in a team announcement.
Latsko was originally selected by the Houston Dash in the third round of the 2018 NWSL Draft, where she spent her first four seasons and helped the Dash win the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup. She also spent several NWSL offseasons during that period on loan to teams in Australia, first with Adelaide United in 2018-19, where she scored 9 goals in 12 matches, and later with Sydney FC in 2019-20.
Ahead of the 2022 NWSL season, Latsko was traded to the Reign in exchange for a 2023 third-round draft pick and $30,000 in allocation money. Her versatility was on display throughout her time with the Reign as she spent time both at forward and at fullback. She made 61 appearances for Seattle and scored eight goals, including two critical game-winning goals in the quarterfinals and semifinals of the 2023 playoffs.
“For me, the 2023 season was incredible. Just being a part of that incredible Reign squad is such a treasured memory,” she said. “The playoffs in 2023 were unforgettable – Getting to go down to San Diego, beating San Diego and watching Harvs [Reign FC head coach Laura Harvey] jump into the pool after that game because that was the bet she had to fulfill. That was probably one of the biggest highlights of my career. That three-week period of 2023 was just awesome.”
While an Achilles injury suffered in preseason has kept her sidelined this year, Latsko said she plans to bring her biggest supporters along in the next phase of her career.
“The best part of my career was the people I met along the way. From the players I played with in Houston, to my best friends in Seattle, to the fans, that is by far the best part. I’ll always consider those people forever friends and I’ll always be here. I’m not going anywhere.”
