Sounders host Game 2 tonight at 7:45 PM on AppleTV and FS1.

The Seattle Sounders face a must-win game tonight when they host Minnesota United in Game 2 of their best-of-3 series. Minnesota won Game 1 in a penalty shootout after regulation finished 0-0.

The Sounders have now failed to beat United in three meetings this year, but have generated the higher-quality scoring chances in each of the past two meetings.

In Game 1, the Sounders generated four “big chances” and 2.4 xG, both of which were season-highs in games where they didn’t actually score.

If the Sounders win, there will be a decisive Game 3 on Saturday at Minnesota.

Notes

  • If the score is tied at the end of regulation, the match will go straight to penalties.
  • This is the first time the Sounders have ever faced elimination in Game 2 of a best-of-3 series. They had won Game 1 in each of the two previous instances.
  • The Sounders have gone 15-1-7 with a +32 goal-difference at home against North American competition this year.
  • The Sounders have an all-time record of 14-3-3 against Minnesota United, but have not won any of their three meetings this year.
  • Jordan Morris leads all active players with nine career playoff goals.
  • This will be the Sounders’ 49th competitive match of the season, tying their all-time record.
