The Seattle Sounders announced the signings of Yu Tsukanome and Sebastian Gomez on Tuesday. That brings the Sounders’ first-team roster to 29 players.
Tsukanome, 25, is coming off a season in which he set the Tacoma Defiance scoring record with 21 goals across all competitions. He is signed through the 2026 with options through December 2027 and December 2028. He will occupy an international roster spot, leaving the Sounders with three remaining.

Gomez, 19, joins the Sounders as a Homegrown Player. He has spent the last two seasons with Tacoma Defiance, and had five goals and six assists across all competitions last year. He is signed through Dec. 31, 2029 with an option through Dec. 31, 2030.
Both players apparently signed their new contracts last year, before the decision to reset the calendar for the 2027-28 season was announced.
“Yu and Sebastian earned this next step in their careers with their play last season,” Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer said in a team statement. “Yu stood out all year with his work rate, sharp decision making and the technical quality he brought to every match. Sebastian showed the same consistency and growth throughout the season, always competing at a high level and showing he was ready for the next challenge. Both players proved themselves by what they did on the field and we’re excited to bring that quality into our group.”
