The Seattle Sounders will be looking to make a little bit of history when they visit LAFC tonight. Although they’ve had some notable postseason wins at BMO Stadium, they’ve never actually won a regular-season game there. In fact, they’ve claimed just a single point in their nine previous trips.
If LAFC has ever looked vulnerable, it’s now. They come into this game having lost three straight league games, four straight overall and are just 2–6–3 since starting the season on an 11-game unbeaten run. On top of that, they’ll be missing several potential starters, most notably goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
The Sounders aren’t exactly on a hot run themselves, though. Since starting the season 6–1–1 in league play, they’ve gone 1–1–2 in their last four. That includes a disappointing home loss to the LA Galaxy last weekend.
Notes
- This will be the Sounders’ first match against LAFC this year after splitting their two meetings a year ago.
- The Sounders are still tied for the fewest goals allowed in MLS (10) but have allowed at least one in each of their past six league games.
- Brian Schmetzer currently has 148 career regular-season wins. He would be just the ninth coach in MLS history to reach 150.
- This will be the final match before an eight-week break for the World Cup. It’s the longest midseason break in MLS history.
