The Seattle Sounders start their Leagues Cup title defense in about as bad of a place as they’ve literally ever been. The Sounders have lost a franchise-record six straight games and now face arguably one of the top teams in all of the Americas.
Toluca are fresh off winning Concacaf Champions Cup earlier this year, which itself came on the heels of winning consecutive Liga MX titles in the 2025 Clausura and Apertura.
This will also be the first-ever Leagues Cup match to be held in Mexico, a new wrinkle in this year's tournament. That will only serve to increase the challenge for the Sounders, especially with this game being played at about 8,200 feet above sea level.
Notes
- Last year's Leagues Cup title made the Sounders the first team to win each of the five major trophies for which MLS teams are currently eligible.
- The Sounders next play Queretaro in Leagues Cup play on Sunday and close out Phase One play when they host Chivas on Aug. 12.
