UPDATE: The Sounders officially announced Osaze De Rosario's loan to Danish Superliga side Sønderjyske Fodbold that includes a purchase option. Sounder at Heart has independently confirmed that the purchase option in January is $2 million and would rise to $2.5 million if Sønderjyske waits until June 2027 to exercise it.
The Seattle Sounders are finalizing a loan to send Osaze De Rosario to Danish Superliga side Sønderjyske Fodbold, according to a report by Niko Moreno. The loan would likely be through the end of the 2026-27 Superliga season, with a chance to recall De Rosario before the 2027 MLS sprint season depending on the Sounders’ needs and how much playing time he’s receiving.
“When this came up, we sat down with Osaze and after a good conversation we all agreed that the impact of going to Sønderjyske and playing significant minutes was a great opportunity,” Sounders GM Craig Waibel said in a release after the move became official. “He’s earned meaningful experience with our First Team over the past year and has shown he can contribute in important moments. This move provides Osaze the opportunity to compete consistently in a strong European league, and we believe that experience will be valuable as he continues to progress and upon his return to Sounders in the future.”
Sønderjyske are one of the smaller teams in the Superliga, playing in the town of Haderslev. Last season, though, they qualified for the Superliga's Championship Round – the rough equivalent of the playoffs – and finished sixth in the table. This year, Sønderjyske are off to a winless start through six matches (0–5–1).
Among the players with whom De Rosario will be competing for minutes is American Matthew Hoppe, who was tied for the team lead in goals last year with six. This year, however, Sønderjyske’s strikers have yet to score a goal.
De Rosario opened the 2026 season as the starter after an impressive preseason in which he led the Sounders in scoring and a 2025 campaign in which he scored five first-team goals in less than 600 minutes across all competitions.
But after signing a new contract early in the year, the forward has struggled to find a similar rate of production. The 25-year-old has just two goals in a little less than 1,000 minutes, and appears to be the odd man up with the signing of Dejan Joveljić and Jordan Morris’ return from injury.
While there’s unlikely to be a loan fee, the Sounders will open a senior roster spot and the prorated portion of his $315,000 guaranteed compensation. He remains under contract through 2028–29 with an option for 29–30.
The Sounders are still looking to make some additions before the transfer window closes on Wednesday.
