The Seattle Sounders are finalizing a deal to acquire Caden Clark from D.C. United, according to a report by Sounder at Heart’s Niko Moreno. The Sounders will send D.C. United a second round pick in the 2028 MLS SuperDraft. Clark is currently on a U22 contract through December 2026 with an option for 2027.
Clark was a once-promising prospect when he was coming through the New York Red Bulls’ system and actually earned a move to the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig. But after failing to make a single appearance for Leipzig and only two appearances while on loan to Danish second-division club Vendsyssel FF, Clark came back to MLS about a year later and has struggled to find any consistency since. The Sounders will be his fourth team in three seasons in MLS and seventh team in five years.
That said, Clark is still just 23 and has done just barely enough to still be considered a potentially interesting talent. His most recent glimmer of potential was flashed in 2024 when he had four goals and two assists in about 670 minutes with CF Montreal, shortly after moving there in a trade.
Clark has played all over the midfield, but has mostly played as more of a central attacking option. With the Sounders, they’ll likely use him more as a wide option.
This appears to be the final move the Sounders will make during the summer transfer window, but they will still be able to add free agents until Oct. 9 when MLS rosters freeze.
